Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. About 1 in 8 (12%) women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. The American Cancer Society's most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States are for 2012:
•About 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.
•About 63,300 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).
•About 39,510 women will die from breast cancer
Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. These decreases are believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment.
At this time there are more than 2.6 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
About Relay For Life of Second Life
Relay For Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society and has been active, and continually growing in Second Life for 7 years.
In 2005, the first Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) was attended by a few hundred avatars and raised almost $5,000 US dollars for the American Cancer Society. In 2009 the Relay For Life of Second Life raised over $250,000.00 US dollars and was attended by thousands of avatars. In 2011 the Relay For Life of Second Life raised over $375,000. We also surpassed the $1,000,000 mark in overall fundraising total in SL during our 2011 campaign!
The Relay For Life of Second Life has the ability to virtually bring together friends, families, businesses, and support organizations from all over the world, all with the goal of raising money and awareness in the fight against cancer!
Fighting cancer is a team effort. The strength of people coming together for a common cause is greater than the strength of one. Teams are the spirit of Relay For Life of Second Life!

The Pink Ribbon Fair will starts August 4th to August 25th, 2012 (4 weeks). This Fair is a charity event for breast cancer. ALL the earned profit will go directly to the American Cancer Society.

One Voice Fundraiser for Gala Phoenix of Curio Press Release
Curio's Gala Phoenix is currently in the midst of legal issues which have resulted in her content being removed from the grid, pending the outcome of her legal battle. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) process in Second Life requires that when there is legal action taken against your content, Linden Lab will remove it from the grid until a ruling is made. Gala's fellow content creators have come together to host a fundraiser to help with the substantial legal costs she will incur in contesting these baseless claims.
The fundraiser will be held from July 9-15.
This fundraiser is not only to help Gala Phoenix, but to also take a stand for the community of content creators, for many of whom SL is their main source of income. This could happen to any one of us, and it's necessary that we stand up and fight back to ensure that it doesn't.
We'd like to thank all of the talented designers who've generously participated and agreed to donate some or all of the proceeds from their sales, and we'd like to thank everyone who comes out for showing their support.
